There is a link between trade and the environment. This is particularly true in developing countries which mainly export primary products such as timber and agricultural commodities. (Ghana’s three main exports are timber, gold and cocoa which together account for a very high proportion of the national forest destruction).
The trade and environment relationship is, however, complex and needs to be explained for people to understand. FOE-Ghana is working to explain this relationship. It also campaigns on trade and environment issues at the national, regional and international levels to help ensure that international trade policies take the environment into consideration.
