Gender, Environment and Development

The important role of women in conservation is recognized by FOE-Ghana and indeed emphasized. Traditionally women have been excluded from development of sustainable and ecologically sound approaches to natural resource management and decision making process due to unequal power relations.

However, as an organization committed to sustainable societies based on equitable distribution of resources, we see the need for a new approach that integrates environmental sustainability with gender equity.

Therefore FOE-Ghana challenges gender imbalances through lobbying, advocacy, campaigns and project. FOE-Ghana is currently involved in sustainable projects in the country aimed at empowering women economically and socially through income generating projects that do not degrade the environment.

Activities include mushroom cultivation, snail farming, bee keeping and cotton and sheanut processing.
