The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) defines climate change as a change of climate which is attributed directly or indirectly to human activity that alters the composition of the global atmosphere and which is in addition to natural variability observed over comparable time periods. Globally the increasing level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is causing a great deal of concern due to its role in the observed warming of the atmosphere known as the green house effect. Carbon dioxide is released in energy production such as burning wood or fossil fuels.
At present Ghana has relatively low levels of carbon dioxide emissions but energy consumption is set to rise dramatically with increasing development and population. Foe-Ghana lobbies the government to integrate climate sensitive policies into environmental policies. To facilitate this Foe-Ghana is serving on the National Climate change Committee.
Foe-Ghana also educates the stakeholders such as legislators, private sector and local communities on energy efficiency and conservation and also the use of alternative environmentally friendly sources of energy.
